The Flower Vase πŸ’

Imagine you’re holding a glass vase of flowers  at the level of your torso
You drop it
It falls and breaks into fragments, damaging the flowers within
You stick all the pieces back together like you’re solving a jigsaw puzzle
They fit perfectly this time, and nobody notices the difference

Now imagine, you’re holding the same vase later on
And you drop it after climbing a flight of stairs
It falls to the floor and shatters to smithereens, much smaller than before
You again reassemble the vase
But some fractions are just so minuscule that you can’t even find them
The larger pieces don’t fit as well because some smaller pieces are missing
This vessel of your emotional and mental state becomes less sturdy
Nobody notices anything wrong from afar

But the next time, a drop from a smaller distance or even a small touch of the hand can make the loose pieces come out easily, since they have no support
Even a small poke can succeed in pushing it over the edge and making it implode
It becomes more and more onerous to regain stability
And that’s when people notice

They call you weak, ignorant of your invisible volcanoes of sufferings, only aware of the lava that is seemingly gushing suddenly and out of nowhere and nothingness, not knowing that it is your wounded heart that has been gradually leaking all this time from the insidiousness of the daggers that penetrated it by those who wielded sinful and malicious weapons of words
But now you’re at your breaking point
And that’s when people notice

That’s when people comment and ridicule you
The same people who broke your heart in the first place
Nobody understands you
Be careful of who you trust
Be careful of who you allow into your life
For once they break your heart, you’ll never be the same again

So the next time, you’re guarded
You’ve removed the poor withered flowers from the vase and have a hollow heart
You’re wary to trust and don’t get close to others
You don’t want to allow yourself to be vulnerable to anyone ever again
So you don’t give anyone any opportunities to get to know you ever again
And that’s when people notice

That’s when people comment
They don’t like your reserved attitude
It’ll take time for your heart to heal and for you to start having faith in others again
But till then, life’s tough
Someday, though, people will enter your life who shall make you feel safe enough to bring down your barriers and free you from the burdens of your heartaches
But till then, protect yourself
Be your own knight in shining armor
Because nobody else will

  1. I was able to connect with this poem instantly, I recalled the time when my dad was on his death bed & my then gf was cheating on me. The purity of your emotions that you brought to life through the medium of your poem made me go down memory lane & I reminiscently recalled the various events in my life. I guess if we don’t encounter that someone who breaks our heart, then we probably would never get to appreciate that special someone who is willing to mend our broken heart with their unconditional love! Thanks for sharing such a deeply impressive post, while recalling my past I stumbled upon few of my previous poems :

    1. What happened to you is awful, and I deeply feel for you.
I read the two poems you linked me and both of them are so powerful and relatable.
Sometimes it feels like it’s really difficult to find or build a deep connection with anyone because most people are involved in only themselves, and it feels like you’re just the place where others come to just dump their burdens on but you don’t have any such outlet for yourself. It’s overall not a nice place to be in. It’s good to be altruistic but sometimes I feel like you have to be a little selfish and take care of yourself before tending to the needs of society, which is something you’re very inclined to do and you feel guilty and you’re not satisfied with yourself if you don’t do that for others. I loved how you embodied all that in your poem.
As for the second poem, not everyone is fortunate enough to have everything handed to them, and even if they are, we all really need to work our way up to really live and have an impact or purpose.
I really enjoyed reading what you’ve shared with me and look forward for reading more of your poems whenever I get the chance. Based on what I’ve read so far I think I can definitely say that yours is the one blog on WordPress I have found that has moved me the most.
Also, I really appreciate you taking the time to read my work as well and giving me your feedback.
I look forward to hearing more from you, friend πŸ™‚

      2. Thank you so much, I would in fact love to collaborate. I kind of feel like our writing and thinking are somewhat similar. We’ve both come from a dark place and are slowly coming out of it and lifting ourselves up, for, it is a work in progress and you can’t just become all happy, energetic, and completely positive overnight. We start by slowly changing our thinking, warding off all negative thoughts on our path to inner peace, and I think this is something you can understand and relate to. So, yes, I would like to collaborate with you and it’s something I’d look forward to!
